FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Methamphetamine Trafficking Arrest
September 4, 2015

On Thursday, September 3, 2015, agents of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) arrested TIMMY LANE REED and SHERRI SATTERFIELD of Woodstock, Georgia.  Agents had information that REED was a source of methamphetamine in south Cherokee County.  Agents executed a search warrant at REED’s residence in Woodstock at about 4PM on Thursday, September 3, 2015.  CMANS Agents arrested REED and SATTERFIELD and seized more than half a pound of methamphetamine.   Both individuals were charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine.  The weight of the drugs at the scene (charges will be ultimately based on the official weight determined by the GBI Crime Laboratory) was more than nine times the weight required for a Trafficking charge in Georgia.  Drug Trafficking is one of the most serious drug charges under Georgia Law.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Divisions is following up on several guns, motor vehicles and automobile parts seen at the residence during the drug search.

Methamphetamine continues to be the most commonly abused drug in Cherokee County.  Last year CMANS agents made 26 methamphetamine trafficking charges and seized over 10 pounds of the drug.  In the first seven months of 2015 CMANS Agents have made 27 methamphetamine trafficking charges and seized over 7 pounds of meth.  In contrast, last year CMANS Agents seized less than one ounce total of heroin.  In the first seven months of 2015 CMANS Agents seized slightly more than 2 ounces of heroin.

CMANS Commander Phil Price: “There is sometimes the perception that CMANS makes a lot of drug charges because the area is riddles with drugs.  I would contend that is not true, that by our hard work and the cooperation of the citizens of Cherokee County we have made this county a difficult and dangerous place to deal drugs.  One of the things we truly enjoy hearing when we try to set up an undercover drug buy is that the dealer is afraid to come to Cherokee County.  We are happy to hand that suspect off to one of our neighboring counties!”

The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad is a joint task force working in Cherokee County to investigate drug related violations.  Participating agencies include the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol.  Citizens may call in tips anonymously to (770) 345-7920, or may speak to an agent by calling (678) 493-7625.
